United Malayalis in Leicester (UML) is a dynamic and close-knit Indian Malayali community, established on 12th May 2024. It was founded with the aim of bringing together Malayali families residing in and around Leicester, creating a strong cultural and social network rooted in the rich traditions of Kerala.

UML’s activities are coordinated by an elected leadership team and reviewed each year by the general body to ensure transparency and community involvement. Today, UML is home to 200 families and over 500 members. This vibrant intergenerational community reflects a healthy blend of experience, energy, and enthusiasm—ensuring that cultural values are preserved while embracing new opportunities and experiences.

The UML community celebrates major cultural festivals such as Onam and other festivals, Christmas, Vishu, Easter etc. with grandeur, featuring traditional performances, music, dance, and authentic Kerala cuisine. These events serve as a bridge between generations and help younger members develop a strong sense of identity and pride in their heritage. In addition to cultural celebrations, UML actively promotes education and well-being by organizing educational seminars and a sports day for children. These initiatives support the all-round development of the younger generation, encouraging both learning and physical activity in a culturally supportive environment.

Through regular get-togethers, family events, educational activities, and social initiatives, UML fosters unity, cultural pride, and mutual support. It plays a vital role in helping Malayali families stay connected to their roots while building meaningful relationships within the wider community in Leicester.
